Job Title:  Paramedic

Job Summary

  • Travel to emergency medical situations to provide a range of care to patients.
  • Assists in providing care for minor illnesses or injuries including relevant clinic assessment and treatment.
  • Assess the patient and their environment, administer necessary and appropriate procedures (such as CPR) and to stabilize patients for transportation to the Hospital.

Principles Duties and Responsibilities

  • Dispatched to scene of emergencies, to assess and provide full medical assessment to people who are injured or critically ill and transport them to the Hospital.
  • Ensure the safe transfer of patients, to and from vehicles, in line with the JPMC’s policy/procedures.
  • Assess, treat, manage, or refer, and where appropriate, convey patients according to the nature and severity of their condition to alternative care pathways, as and where appropriate.
  • Ensure the prompt, legible and accurate completion of all patient and incident records, providing a full and accurate record of decision making in accordance with JPMC policy and framework.
  • Ensure the sharing of information and handover is always done in compliance with JPMC policy to coordinate the medical care of patients including on patient condition and EMS plan of care, as and where appropriate.
  • Record information and maintain records of clients/passengers/journeys/ambulance safety checks/ ambulance refueling and duty hours in line with JPMC Policy.
  • Complete and submit all necessary reports and notifications as required by JPMC.
  • Drive relevant vehicle / Ambulance types operated by the service that you are trained on in accordance with the emergency vehicle driver training standards and Brunei relevant legislation.
  • Carry out vehicle and equipment inspections in a safe, prudent manner in line with JPMC policy.
  • Maintain appropriate standards of cleanliness of vehicles / ambulance, equipment, and station, completing documentation as required and as outlined in JPMC policy.
  • Promote and ensure patient safety in performance of all responsibilities through proper utilization if suitable body mechanics, transfer/lifting techniques and appropriate equipment to minimize fall risk to patient and injury to self, as and where appropriate.
  • As appropriate, ensure compliance with medicines management. Ensures drugs are stored securely and where appropriate stocked according to JPMC policy.
  • Make appropriate use of equipment which you are trained on, which may include various types of vehicles, diagnostic, invasive and therapeutic equipment.
  • Assist in Outpatient Department as needed and required.
  • Carry out shifts as agreed and detailed by Nursing Department.

Professional Requirements

  • A minimum of five (5) years of working experience as a Paramedic with direct patient interaction is preferred.

Educational Requirements

  • Diploma in Paramedic from an institute recognized by the Allied Health Professionals Council of Negara Brunei Darussalam is required.
  • An undergraduate degree in Paramedic or any other related field from an institute recognized by the Allied Health Professionals Council of Negara Brunei Darussalam will be an added advantage.
