Job Title:  Junior UI/UX Designer [i-Ready]

Job Summary

This role is designed for an i-Ready apprentice seeking hands-on exposure to UI/UX design and digital product experience.
You will support the Digital Experience team in day-to-day design activities while gaining practical experience across user interface design, user experience practices, and digital product workflows. Guidance and supervision will be provided throughout the apprenticeship.

Key Responsibilities

What you'll be doing & learning: 

  • Support our senior designers in turning ideas and requirements into basic design outputs such as wireframes, mockups, and basic prototypes.

  • Create UI components including buttons, forms, navigation menus, and page layouts.

  • Learn how to apply and maintain consistency with DST’s  design system, branding, and UI guidelines.

  • Prepare design materials such as user flows, sim storyboards, sitemaps, and presentation slides.

  • Support user research activities, including surveys, interviews, usability testing, and note-taking during sessions.

  • Help refine and improve designs based on feedback from user testing, designers, and stakeholders.

  • Assist with basic UI testing activities and help document the findings and observations. 

  • Support the team in identifying usability issues and suggest ideas for design improvements.

  • Prepare draft designs and files for internal reviews and team discussions.

  • Collaborate and learn from designers, developers, and other team members throughout the project lifecycle.

Skills & Competencies

 

  • Basic working knowledge of UX/UI tools such as Figma (required) Understanding of user-centered design principles and basic design thinking concepts. 

  • Willingness to learn, take feedback positively, and improve design skills over time.

  •  Good communication skills and ability to explain design ideas simply.

  • Ability to manage multiple small tasks and follow guidance from senior designers. 

  • Comfortable working in a team environment and supporting others. Creative eye for layout, spacing, typography, and visual consistency is a plus. Proficiency in Malay and English (written and spoken).  

  • Basic understanding of how designs are implemented by developers (HTML/CSS knowledge is a plus but not required).

  • Strong interest in UI/UX design, digital products, and user experience.

  • Basic familiarity or exposure to design tools (e.g. Figma) is an advantage but not mandatory.

  • Willingness to learn, receive feedback, and develop skills under guidance.

  • Able to communicate ideas clearly and work collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Organised, attentive to detail, and comfortable managing multiple small tasks with support.

  • Creative eye for layout, spacing, typography, and visual consistency is an added advantage.

Relevant Experiences & Qualifications

 

  • Applicable as an i-Ready candidate from Pusat Pekerjaan Brunei (JobCentre Brunei).
  • HND / Bachelor’s degree in Design, Multimedia, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

  • Candidates with a portfolio showcasing academic, personal, or basic UI/UX projects is an advantage but not mandatory.
