Job Summary

The Legal Manager oversees the organization’s legal operations, ensuring compliance with laws, managing legal risks, and providing strategic guidance to senior management. The role includes drafting and reviewing contracts, handling disputes, performing company secretary duties, and coordinating with external legal counsel when necessary.

Job Description

Responsible for managing the Company's and its business unit's legal affairs and functions by providing clear legal advice, opinions, and recommendations on all legal concerns related to the Company. 

  • Act as company secretary for the Company providing support to the Board of Directors by facilitating effective board meetings, ensuring compliance with governance principles and maintaining accurate records of board activities, with direct reporting to the Board of Directors. 
  • To act as the focal point for all legal issues, including commercial and technical aspects of contracts. 
  • Responsibility for providing legal advice and assistance on contracts, policies, and procedures, as well as commercial and practical guidance where necessary, to all functional business units, in accordance with best international industry practice in all aspects of the Company's businesses. 
  • Accountable for all legal, regulatory, and statutory compliance matters related to the Company, as well as providing effective risk management evaluation and guidance. 
  • Representing the Company in all commercial negotiations and meetings as needed. 
  • To ensure that the Department and Unit's policies and procedures are in accordance with the Company’s corporate governance standards. 
  • To act as an independent legal facilitator in all situations of confidentiality, employees, stakeholders and dispute concerns that impact the Company.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB) from a government-accredited university

  • Master’s Degree in Law (LLM) and/or Bar Professional Training Course certification (or equivalent) is an added advantage

  • Minimum of eight (8) years of relevant experience in corporate legal services or as in-house legal counsel, with strong exposure to regulatory compliance, contracts, and corporate governance
