Job Title: Medical Social Worker

Job Summary
Medical Social Worker works closely with the Multi-Disciplinary Team (Doctors, Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist, Nurses, Speech & Language Therapist, Psychologist, etc) to discuss about the patient’s condition, risks and recommendation to intervene the social problems experienced by patient and family accordingly. Work as an intermediary between patients, families, medical and rehabilitation team thus to provide support and improve the communication between the medical providers and patients and families, and subsequently advocate for their needs and wishes accordingly. Medical Social Worker also needs to liaise with other relevant agencies such as schools, social service department, religious affair depending on the issues identified as part of holistic intervention in assisting the problems encountered by the patient and family encountered.
Principles Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible in casework management delegated according to social work standard guidance and ethical standards.
- Conduct appropriate assessment and provide effective and comprehensive psychosocial interventions for patients and their families.
- Collaborate with respective department and relevant agencies aiming to explore the optimum action that could be taken to help patients and their family holistically.
- Pro-active in given tasks both in direct and indirect social work practices assigned by the Head of Department.
- Identify and attend relevant training and development in order to maintain own continuing professional development (CPD) and develop skills and knowledge required to support clients and service development.
- Engage in the creation and completion of data collection, departmental database, SOPs and Policies to ensure organizational maintenance as part of quality improvement.
- Take active role in conducting action research/clinical governance, audit projects, group work through the use of reflective learning, peer discussions, team development days and action planning to generate ideas and improve clinical quality of the department service
- Involve in administrative task when required
- Performs all duties in a professional, effective and confidential manner
- Performs all other duties as required or assigned
Educational Requirements
An undergraduate degree in Social Work from an institute recognized by the Allied Health Professionals Council of Negara Brunei Darussalam
Specialised Skills/Knowledge/Attribute Requirement
• Related work experience required in conducting social work assessment and intervention.
• Ideally, employee should demonstrate the following attributes:
