Job Title:  Art Therapy Assistant

Job Summary

Art Therapy Assistant's role is to support the delivery of therapeutic art programs in a rehabilitation setting. The assistant will work under the supervision of a licensed art therapist to facilitate group and individual art sessions, prepare materials, maintain a safe and welcoming environment, and assist in documenting client progress. This role plays an essential part in promoting emotional healing, self-expression, and improved well-being for individuals recovering from physical, emotional, or substance-related challenges.

Principles Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and preparing art therapy sessions under the direction of a licensed Art Therapist.
  • Support clients during art activities by encouraging participation and creative expression (without providing therapeutic interpretation).
  • Prepare, organise, and maintain art materials and supplies for sessions.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and therapeutic environment in accordance with facility policies and safety standards.
  • Observe client behaviour and engagement and report relevant observations to the supervising Art Therapist.
  • Assist with documentation, including session attendance, basic observations, and inventory tracking, in compliance with privacy regulations.
  • Provide administrative support such as scheduling, appointment coordination, and general office tasks as required.
  • Participate in team meetings, supervision, and training sessions as required.
  • Uphold strict client confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times.

Educational Requirements

  • A minimum of Foundation or Bachelor's Degree in Art or any related fields.
  • Experience working in a clinical or rehabilitation services is highly preferred.
  • Strong interest in art therapy or creative arts therapies.

Specialised Skills/Knowledge/Attribute Requirement

  • Basic knowledge in art materials and creative processes.
  • Empathy, patience and the ability to support patients with diverse needs.
  • Ability to follow therapeutic protocols and clinical guidance from licensed staff.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with clients from diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team.
