Job Summary
- Responsible for supporting the maintenance, repair, inspection, and commissioning of biomedical equipment to ensure optimal functionality, reliability, and patient safety. The Biomedical Technician assists in preventive maintenance activities, equipment monitoring, troubleshooting, record management, and operational readiness while ensuring compliance with safety standards and hospital procedures.
Principles Duties and Responsibilities
Biomedical Equipment Maintenance, Assessment and Documentation Support
- Repair, maintain, and troubleshoot biomedical equipment to ensure proper functionality and safety.
- Assist in the installation, testing, and commissioning of new biomedical equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance activities to minimize equipment downtime and prolong service life.
- Conduct regular monitoring and inspection of medical equipment and maintain accurate maintenance records in manual and digital formats.
- Support users by providing guidance on equipment operation and optimization.
- Assist in engineering assessments to identify equipment faults and document incidents accurately.
Operational and Emergency Readiness, and Compliance Support
- Provide after-hours technical support when required.
- Collaborate with contractors and external service providers during equipment servicing and maintenance activities.
- Respond to emergency and critical care situations, including support during power shutdowns and generator load testing.
- Assist in the preparation and documentation for biomedical equipment condemnation or disposal processes.
- Ensure compliance with workplace safety standards, hospital policies, and biomedical engineering procedures.
- Support the organization and maintenance of the Biomedical Workshop and Biomedical Store.
Educational Requirements
- Minimum Diploma or Certification in Biomedical Technology/Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution approved by the Government of His Majesty of Negara Brunei Darussalam.
Professional Requirements
- Professional certification such as NEBOSH or other occupational health and safety-related certifications is desirable.
- Minimum of five (5) years of technical experience in the repair and maintenance of biomedical equipment is preferred.
- Knowledge of medical equipment, biomedical technology, electronics, and basic medical terminology.
- Strong practical skills in mechanics, electronics, and computer systems.
- Good analytical, problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently, respond effectively during emergencies, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.
Specialised Skills/Knowledge/Attribute Requirement
- Strong technical knowledge of biomedical equipment, medical devices, and healthcare technology systems.
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance procedures, troubleshooting techniques, and equipment calibration processes.
- Familiarity with electrical, electronic, and mechanical systems related to medical equipment.
- Understanding of hospital safety regulations, infection control practices, and biomedical engineering standards.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, engineering drawings, schematics, and equipment specifications.
- Competency in using diagnostic tools, testing instruments, and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose equipment faults efficiently.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in maintenance documentation and reporting.
- Ability to work independently and under pressure, particularly during emergency breakdowns or critical situations.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills to liaise effectively with healthcare professionals, contractors, and vendors.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Willingness to participate in after-hours support, emergency response activities, and continuous professional development training.
