Job Summary
- Provide comprehensive general dental care and treatment services to patients, ensuring safe, effective, and patient-centered oral healthcare across preventive, diagnostic, restorative, and minor surgical dental procedures.
- Conduct clinical assessments, diagnose oral health conditions, formulate treatment plans, perform dental procedures, and deliver follow-up care in accordance with established clinical standards and evidence-based practice.
- Promote oral health awareness and disease prevention through patient education, counselling, and preventive interventions aimed at improving long-term oral health outcomes.
- Contribute to departmental quality improvement initiatives, clinical governance, continuing professional development, and compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Principles Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive dental examinations, oral assessments, and patient consultations.
- Diagnose common oral diseases, dental conditions, and abnormalities through clinical and radiographic assessment.
- Develop and implement appropriate treatment plans in collaboration with patients and relevant healthcare professionals.
- Perform routine dental procedures within approved clinical privileges, including:
· Dental restorations (fillings)
· Scaling and polishing
· Routine extractions
· Preventive treatments
· Management of dental pain and infections
· Management of periodontal conditions
· Minor oral surgical procedures within competency scope
· Pediatric patient management - Provide emergency dental assessment and treatment for acute dental conditions.
- Educate patients regarding diagnosis, treatment options, risks, benefits, and expected outcomes.
- Identify cases requiring specialist management and facilitate timely referrals.
- Provide safe, effective, ethical, and patient-centered dental care in accordance with professional and regulatory standards.
- Promote a positive patient experience through professional communication and high-quality service delivery.
- Participate in continuing professional development (CPD) activities to maintain and enhance professional competency.
Professional Requirements
- Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of post-registration clinical experience in general dentistry is preferred.
- Experience in primary healthcare, private dental practice, or hospital-based dentistry is desirable.
Educational Requirements
- Possess a Degree in Dentistry (BDS, DDS, DMD or equivalent) that is registrable with the Brunei Medical Board (BMB).
- Completion of Internship/Housemanship and full registration requirements as stipulated by the relevant regulatory authority.
- Postgraduate qualification in relevant dental disciplines is an added advantage.
- Membership qualification such as MFDS, MJDF, or equivalent from a recognized institution is an added advantage.
Specialised Skills/Knowledge/Attribute Requirement
- Sound knowledge of general dentistry, oral disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment planning, restorative procedures, and patient management.
- Knowledge of dental radiography interpretation and diagnostic techniques.
- Understanding of infection prevention and control practices, patient safety standards, and clinical governance requirements.
- Ability to recognize complex dental conditions requiring specialist referral and multidisciplinary management.
