Job Summary
The Chief People Officer (CPO) is a strategic executive role responsible for leading the hospital’s human resources (HR) function at the highest level. The CPO oversees the hospital’s people strategy, aligning HR initiatives with the organization’s mission, vision, and goals. The CPO is responsible for talent acquisition, workforce planning, organizational development, employee engagement, compensation and benefits, and fostering a culture of inclusion and diversity. This role is a key member of the executive leadership team, working closely with the CEO, Board, and senior leadership to ensure the hospital attracts, develops, and retains top talent across clinical, administrative, and support areas
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement HR strategies that align with hospital objectives and enhance patient care and operational effectiveness.
- Oversee talent acquisition, workforce planning, and succession planning to ensure a skilled and diverse workforce.
- Lead initiatives to promote employee engagement, retention, and well-being, ensuring high levels of staff satisfaction and morale.
- Drive organizational culture and diversity, equity, and inclusion programs that foster an inclusive and high-performance work environment.
- Manage compensation and benefits programs to remain competitive within the healthcare sector and ensure equity across staff.
- Oversee compliance with labor laws and healthcare-specific regulations (e.g., HIPAA, OSHA).
- Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO and senior leadership on organizational development, change management, and leadership development.
Professional Requirements
Experience: Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in human resources management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership position within a healthcare setting. Demonstrated success in talent management, employee engagement, and HR operations at the executive level.
Healthcare Industry Experience: Strong understanding of healthcare operations, including the specific HR challenges in a clinical environment. Experience with workforce planning and staffing models in a hospital or healthcare organization is essential.
Leadership Experience: Proven track record in leading and developing high-performing teams. Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse groups, including medical staff, clinical leaders, HR professionals, and senior executives.
Educational Requirements
A Master’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related field is required. A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline is required; additional certifications in HR (e.g., SHRM-SCP, SPHR) or healthcare management (e.g., MHA, MPH) are preferred.
