Job Summary

Provide a high level of expertise in the perioperative management of patients undergoing surgical, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures requiring anaesthesia and sedation.
Deliver high-quality, patient-centred anaesthesia care through comprehensive pre-anaesthesia assessment, development of individualized anaesthetic plans, safe administration of anaesthesia, and continuous intraoperative monitoring.
Collaborate closely with surgeons, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated multidisciplinary patient management across perioperative and procedural care settings.
Contribute to clinical governance, patient safety initiatives, quality improvement programmes, and service development within the Anaesthesia Department.
Support departmental leadership through participation in policy development, clinical audits, education, and the continuous improvement of perioperative and anaesthesia services.

Manage Acute and Elective Anaesthesia Caseloads

Lead multidisciplinary collaboration with surgeons, intensivists, and nursing staff to provide comprehensive perioperative care. Regularly evaluate and adjust anaesthetic management plans in response to patient condition changes, ensuring proactive and effective care.
Clinically evaluate patients presenting or referred for anaesthesia, perform preoperative assessment, and order appropriate investigations.
Correlate clinical findings with investigations to formulate safe and effective anaesthetic plans.
Independently initiate anaesthesia plans, including perioperative monitoring strategies, airway management, and post-operative analgesia.
Administer anaesthesia for routine and complex procedures within the scope of clinical privileges granted by the Head of Department.

Patient Pre-Anaesthesia Assessment and Optimization

Oversee patient evaluation, preoperative risk assessment, and optimization in collaboration with surgical and medical teams.
Ensure high standards of patient care through coordination with nurses, critical care, and allied health teams.

Intraoperative Anaesthesia Management

Deliver safe and effective anaesthesia during surgical, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures.
Continuously monitor patient vitals, adjust anaesthetic agents, and respond to perioperative complications.
Collaborate with surgeons, proceduralists, and critical care teams for complex cases requiring multidisciplinary input.

Procedural Support and Specialists Collaboration

Provide anaesthesia support for specialized procedures, including regional blocks, sedation, and advanced airway management.
Ensure patient safety, comfort, and adherence to infection control protocols during all procedures.
Coordinate post-operative analgesia and critical care interventions as required.

Collaboration with Multidisciplinary Teams

Actively participate in multidisciplinary case discussions, contributing expert input on anaesthesia and perioperative management.
Collaborate with surgeons, intensivists, nurses, and allied health professionals to develop comprehensive patient care plans.

Quality, Education, and Research

Actively participate in quality improvement initiatives, including clinical audits, morbidity/mortality reviews, and peer-review processes, ensuring high standards of anaesthesia care.
Provide mentorship, guidance, and clinical teaching to postgraduate trainees, interns, junior medical officers, and other departmental staff, fostering professional development and clinical competency.
Engage in clinical research, audit, and innovation relevant to Anaesthesiology, evaluating new techniques, medications, monitoring methods, and patient outcomes, including perioperative safety and effectiveness.

A minimum of ten (10) years of full-time clinical training and experience post-completion of Postgraduate Clinical Training is required.

Educational Recquirement

Possess a Primary Medical Degree, MBBS or equivalent.
Completion of Postgraduate training and qualification in a relevant medical specialty is required.
Intermediate qualification in their specific specialty from an institute recognized by the BMB or equivalent is required. (e.g., MRCP/FRCS/ MRCGP, ABMS Board Certification, FAMS, FCPS, etc.)
Award of completion of certification of specialist training or equivalent to a clinical field is required.
Professional Membership and Fellowship such as MRCP/FRCP, MRCS/MRCP, MRCGP/FRCGP, ESMO, or equivalent with work/training experience in relevant fields are required.

Licensure & Certifications

Full Medical Registration/Licensure with a recognized National Medical Council/Board (e.g. Brunei Medical Board (BMB), General Medical Council (GMC), Medical Council of India (MCI), etc.) is required.
Registerable and possess a valid practicing license issued by previous country of practice or home country.
Medical Practice Registration is required.
A valid BLS/CPR: Basic Life Support CPR Course for CPR Victims of all ages are required.
International Professional Bodies an added advantage.

In-depth knowledge of anaesthetic techniques, perioperative patient management, monitoring protocols, and emerging trends in anaesthesia research.
Comprehensive understanding of healthcare regulations and standards, and adherence to clinical safety and infection control protocols.
Strong analytical skills to assess complex perioperative cases, interpret monitoring data, laboratory results, and imaging, and make data-driven decisions in patient care.
Proficient in multidisciplinary team collaboration, with the ability to effectively communicate and coordinate with surgeons, physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals.
Advanced clinical skills in airway management, resuscitation, sedation, and anaesthesia delivery.
Knowledge of ethical considerations in anaesthesia care, including informed consent, patient autonomy, and professional standards of practice.
