Muara Maritime Services Sdn Bhd (“MMS”) is a joint venture company responsible for providing maintenance, repair and overhaul services (MRO) to Royal Brunei Navy (“RBN”) vessels and dockyard infrastructure. We are looking for highly motivated and suitably qualified Bruneian professionals to fill the following positions:
Position Summary
The Engineer in the Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) Workshop is responsible for planning, supervising, and executing repair, maintenance, and modification works on Fleet B boats, crafts and Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) vessels. The role ensures all GRP repair activities are carried out to marine safety, quality, and classification standards, while coordinating manpower, materials, and workshop resources effectively.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
Technical Oversight
Supervise GRP repair and maintenance on boats and crafts, including assessing damages such as cracks, osmosis, and delamination. Develop repair methods for hulls, decks, and fittings, and ensure proper use of resins, gel coats, and composite materials. Manage daily workshop tasks and update ERP records for repairs, materials, labour hours, and schedules.
Quality & Safety Control
Ensure all workmanship meets marine standards, class rules, and OEM requirements. Conduct inspections and testing of completed GRP works. Enforce safety practices, including proper PPE and safe handling of chemicals and materials.
Planning & Coordination
Prepare schedules, material lists, and manpower allocation. Coordinate with naval architects, supervisors, painters, and mechanical/electrical workshops. Liaise with clients, ship crews, and inspection authorities on progress and requirements.
Documentation & Reporting
Prepare inspection reports, repair recommendations, and completion documentation. Maintain accurate records of material usage, costs, and timelines. Assist in preparing JHAs and method statements.
Team Leadership & Improvement
Guide and train subordinates on GRP repair techniques and new technologies. Mentor junior staff and support skill development. Recommend process improvements, evaluate new materials/tools, and support initiatives for improved durability and eco-friendly GRP solutions.
Requirements

Hands-on experience in GRP (fiberglass) boat construction, repair, and maintenance.

Skilled in RHIB/RIB structural and collar repairs, including airtightness testing, patching, and valve servicing.

Experienced in leading GRP technicians, laminators, and painters in project or supervisory roles.

Familiar with hybrid repairs involving GRP and steel, aluminum, or wood structures.

Knowledgeable in fiberglass materials, resin systems, lamination processes, and finishing techniques.

Aware of classification society requirements and IMO/ISO standards for GRP structures.

Able to plan and coordinate GRP repair schedules, materials, and manpower to meet project deadlines.

Strong communication skills, proactive mindset, and capable of motivating and guiding team members.
