Job Title:  Maintenance Technician

Location: 

Brunei Muara, Brunei Darussalam

Job Summary

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing routine maintenance and repair work in carpentry, plumbing, and minor electrical systems to ensure the proper functioning, safety, and aesthetics of the facility. The technician will also support preventive maintenance activities and respond to corrective work orders as assigned.

Principles Duties and Responsibilities

Carpentry Works:

  • Perform repair and maintenance of doors, cabinets, furniture, locks, and partitions.
  • Install wall brackets, support rails, notice boards, and signage as required.
  • Carry out wooden flooring, shelving, and ceiling repair.
  • Fabricate or modify wooden fixtures based on site requirements.

Plumbing Works:

  • Inspect, install, and repair plumbing systems including water supply lines, sanitary fixtures, faucets, drainage, and traps.
  • Unblock toilets, floor traps, and gully traps as required.
  • Conduct periodic checks for water leaks and rectify immediately.
  • Support the maintenance of hot/cold water lines, pressure tanks, and sanitary fittings.

Painting Works:

  • Perform surface preparation including scraping, sanding, and priming.
  • Apply paint, varnish, or other finishes to walls, doors, ceilings, and furniture.
  • Conduct minor drywall or plaster repairs before painting.
  • Ensure smooth and clean finishes in all painting jobs.

Electrical:

  • Conduct basic troubleshooting of electrical equipment, electrical system (power  & Lighting), and back-up power supply issues.
  • Replace fuses, bulbs, faulty switches, etc.
  • Assist certified electricians with higher-level electrical work where necessary.

General:

  • Perform scheduled Preventive Planned Maintenance (PPM) as per checklist.
  • Maintain accurate work logs and report daily tasks.
  • Ensure safety compliance and use of PPE while performing duties.
  • Respond to emergency maintenance issues as needed.
  • Participate in on-call duties or emergency response when scheduled.

Educational Requirements

Education:

  • Minimum Technical/Vocational Certificate or Diploma in Building Maintenance, Carpentry, Plumbing, or equivalent.

Professional Requirements

Experience:

  • At least 10 years of hands-on experience in carpentry, painting and plumbing work.
  • Basic working knowledge of electrical wiring and troubleshooting is required.

Specialised Skills/Knowledge/Attribute Requirement

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Skilled in the use of power and hand tools for carpentry, plumbing, and painting.
  • Knowledge of surface preparation and various painting techniques.
  • Understanding of building codes and safety regulations.
  • Able to interpret basic technical drawings and plumbing schematics.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Other Requirements:

  • Physically fit and able to work in confined spaces or at heights.
  • Willing to work on shifts, weekends, or on-call if necessary.
  • Good communication and reporting skills.
  • Certification in safety (e.g., BOSH, Permit to Work) is an advantage.
