Job Title: Maxillofacial Technician Trainee

Job Summary
Supports the Maxillofacial Prosthetic Laboratory in the preparation, fabrication, and maintenance of intraoral and extraoral prosthetic devices under the guidance of senior technologists and consultants.
Perform clinical procedures in outpatient clinics and operating theatre, performing task such as impression-taking, appliance fitting and providing patient guidance on device use and care in the operating theatre.
Operates and maintains laboratory equipment, including CAD/CAM systems and intraoral scanners, to assist in the digital design and production of surgical and therapeutic appliances
Principles Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Support & Patient Interaction
- Assist and perform maxillofacial technologists during clinical procedures such as impression taking (intraoral, facial, ear, eye), facebow records for orthognathic planning and appliance fittings.
- Prepare and sterilize instruments and materials prior to patient procedures; ensure clinical areas are clean and ready.
- Provide patients with clear instructions and reassurance regarding the use, wear and care of their devices.
Laboratory Operations & Fabrication
- Fabricate and design prosthetic and therapeutic devices (e.g. Michigan splints, ear compression clips, trauma appliances, cutting models) based on consultant referral and patient-specific conditions.
- Maintain cleanliness and safety in the laboratory, including machine shutdown, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) safety, and hazardous material handling.
- Conduct basic maintenance and calibration of lab equipment and tools; report faults promptly to senior staff.
- Ensure safe storage, labeling. and handling of prosthetic materials and devices in compliance with infection control protocols.
Administrative & Operational Support
- Schedule patient appointments and prepare documentation (e.g. billing forms, case notes) in coordination with the clinic team.
- Assist with inventory tracking, restocking supplies, and coordinating procurement requests.
- Maintain accurate and secure digital and physical records of prosthetic designs and patient case data.
Educational Requirements
- A minimum of a Diploma in Maxillofacial Technology, Dental or equivalent from an institution recognized by the Government of His Majesty of Brunei Darussalam is required.
- A minimum of Bachelor's degree in Maxillofacial Technology, Dental Technology or related field from an institute recognized by the Government of His Majesty of Brunei Darussalam is preferred.
- Candidate who has equivalent qualifications through education and/or experience may be considered for this position, at the Management's discretion.
Specialised Skills/Knowledge/Attribute Requirement
- Good understanding of laboratory principles and infection control.
- Ability to perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration of equipment.
- Familiarity with risk reporting tools, clinical governance frameworks, and healthcare regulatory requirements (e.g. JCI standards).
- Good foundation in analytical and organizational skills, with high attention to detail and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks efficiently.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Words, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook) and able to adapt quickly to Hospital Information Systems.
- Ability to remail detail-oriented and perform consistently under pressure, interruptions, and in time-sensitive clinical environments.
