Job Summary
The Medical Officer (Neurology) is a key member of the Neurology team, responsible for delivering comprehensive care to patients with a wide spectrum of neurological disorders. While stroke care remains a core component, the role encompasses acute neurology presentations, neuroinflammatory conditions, epilepsy, movement disorders, and neurodegenerative diseases. The postholder will participate in acute neurology on-call duties, including stroke thrombolysis, and rotate across affiliated hospitals to support service continuity and integration.
Principles Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Care
- Conduct detailed neurological assessments and formulate differential diagnoses across a broad range of conditions.
- Manage acute neurology cases including seizures, encephalitis, Guillain-Barré syndrome, and other emergencies.
- Provide hyperacute stroke care including thrombolysis and thrombectomy coordination.
- Participate in acute neurology on-call roster, covering JPMC and other designated hospitals.
- Interpret and integrate findings from neurodiagnostic tests (EEG, EMG, MRI/CT).
- Support inpatient and outpatient neurology services, including stroke unit, general neurology ward, and specialist clinics.
- Ensure continuity of care across hospital rotations and inter-facility referrals.
Patient Education and Support
- Counsel patients and families on neurological conditions, treatment plans, and prognosis.
- Promote awareness of neurological health, stroke prevention, and lifestyle modification.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration
- Engage in multidisciplinary rounds, case conferences, and rehabilitation planning.
- Collaborate with allied health professionals, rehabilitation teams, and other specialties.
Clinical Governance, Teaching, and Research
- Contribute to audits, protocol development, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Participate in departmental teaching, CME activities, and clinical research.
- Support the development of neurology services across the region.
Professional Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of clinical experience in hospital-based medicine.
- Prior exposure to Neurology or Internal Medicine preferred.
- Willingness to rotate across hospitals and adapt to varied clinical settings.
Educational Requirements
- MBBS or equivalent medical degree recognized by the Brunei Medical Board.
- MRCP Part 1 or Part 2 is desirable but not mandatory
