Job Title:  Clinical Dietitian

Location:

Job Summary

  • Optimize health through evidence-based medical nutrition therapy for patients with acute and chronic conditions in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Provide dietetic care across various clinical areas, including intensive care, rehabilitation, neurology, oncology, renal, women’s and children’s health, and general medical services.
  • Assess patients’ nutritional needs, develop and implement individualized care plans to support patient recovery, manage medical conditions, and promote long-term health.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure holistic, patient-centered care.
  • Educate patients, families, healthcare professionals, and external stakeholders on nutrition, diet-related disease prevention and healthy lifestyle practices.

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Dietetics or above recognized by the Allied Health Professional Council (AHPC) of Negara Brunei Darussalam is required is required.
  • Supervised clinical internship experience at a minimum of six (6) months is required.

Professional Requirements

  • Hospital-based clinical experience of two (2) is required.
  • Eligible for registration with AHPC of Negara Brunei Darussalam

Principles Duties and Responsibilities

  • Nutrition Care Planning
    • Conduct comprehensive nutrition assessments using the Nutrition Care Process.
    • Competent in utilizing nutritional screening tools to identify those in need of nutritional interventions.
    • Develop individualized care plans based on clinical indicators, cultural considerations, and patient-centered goals.
    • Monitor and evaluate individuals’ progress and implement nutritional interventions as necessary.
    • Provide appropriate discharge instructions and coordinate handovers to other healthcare facilities to ensure continuity of care and effective transitions between care settings.

 

  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration & Communication:
    • Collaborate with nursing staff, allied health professionals, and physicians to promote cohesive and integrated interdisciplinary care.
    • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and care conferences, providing nutrition expertise to support collaborative treatment planning.
    • Maintain accurate patient records in line with Joint Commission International standards.

 

  • Nutritional Monitoring and Communication
    • Assess nutritional status and provide individualized nutrition care plans and education from the analysis of medical records and/or patient face-to-face interview for hospitalized patients utilizing specialized knowledge and skills; provide sound advice to patients on healthy eating habits and evaluate treatments of disease through nutrition.
    • Review lab results, dialysis adequacy, fluid weight status and nutrition concerns with assigned patiets on a monthly basis and educate regarding appropriate nutrition related changes.

 

  • Education & Health Promotion:
    • Provide structured clinical nutrition education to nursing staff to enhance nutrition-related knowledge and support effective care delivery.
    • Deliver group education to external stakeholders on nutrition, diet-related disease prevention, and promotion of healthy lifestyle practices.
    • Develop nutrition education resources.

 

  • Food Service & Therapeutic Diet Management
    • Review therapeutic diet menus proposed by the food service provider.
    • Evaluate and approve patient menus provided by the food service provider to ensure appropriate implementation of therapeutic diets in compliance with national dietary guidelines, nutritional standards, and individual patient needs.
    • Collaborate with the food service provider to address meal-related concerns, facilitating service improvement and enhancing patient satisfaction.
    • Participate in the evaluation of food service provider to ensure alignment with clinical nutrition standards.

 

  • Contribute to audits, staff training, and service development initiatives.

Specialised Skills/Knowledge/Attribute Requirement

  • Able to work independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, with minimal supervision.
  • Strong understanding of medical, nutritional, and dietetic terminology
  • Strong communication, counseling, time-management and interpersonal skills.
  • Commit to continuing professional development.
  • Strong analytical and clinical reasoning skills in interpreting medical history, laboratory results, and diet history.
  • Work in compliance with all relevant hospital policies, procedures, clinical guidelines, and professional standards of practice.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to ensure the delivery of optimal patient care.
  • Able to communicate fluently in English and Bahasa Melayu.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office.
